Multiple chemical sensitivity treatment
Treating patients with MCS is very challenging because of the ubiquitous level of toxic chemicals present throughout our modern-day environment. There is no completely satisfactory treatment of patients with this condition. Avoidance of the offending chemicals is the only thing that consistently works. For some, moderately reducing the level of exposures in the home and workplace is all they need to do. This may simply involve making their bedroom environmentally safe, whereas for others it might require converting the entire house into a chemically free haven and, in some instances having to move to a safer house
Some MCS patients have nutritional deficits that cause them to be more susceptible to the effects of toxic chemicals. This would include lack of antioxidant protection, metabolic abnormalities and amino acid deficiencies that are necessary to support our detoxification pathways. Most of these deficits can be identified with lab tests and appropriately treated.
Other MCS patients may also be complicated with chronic viral, yeast or fungal infections that can be treated, which helps reduce the overall stresses on their immune system Another group of patients may have accumulated high levels of various toxic chemicals, including pesticides, herbicides, toxic metals or solvents. These patients can often markedly improve by going through an environmental detoxification program using chelation and/or sauna therapy to "de-pollute" their body along with nutritional support.
Other treatments that have been shown to be helpful for chemical hypersensitivity include the following:
Low Dose Allergy-possibly the best treatment for complex allergy patients. Utilizes extremely low dose antigens-foods, inhalant allergens and chemicals. Given by injection or sublingual every 2 months.
Nasal and/or nebulized glutathione-protective, antioxidant, detoxification affects. Can be used as a daily program or just when necessary for chemical exposures
Nasal Procaine-neuroprotective, especially for those with neural sensitization. Procaine decreases neural sensitivity in the sinus area and the olfactory cortex.
Intravenous glutathione-detoxification, antioxidant effect. Can be used preventatively or before or after chemical exposures to neutralize effects
Intravenous Vitamin C-antioxidant and detoxification effect
Nasal Vitamin B 12-neuroprotective effect from chemical exposures.
Dextromethorphan-blocks NMDA receptor
Sodium Sulfate-assist in detoxification of chemicals
L-cysteine, which gets converted to glutathione.
External Enhanced Counterpulsation (EECP) with oxygen is a novel and relatively new approach to treating patients who have had adverse affects from chemicals and mycotoxins. Toxic chemical especially adversely affect our microvascular system causing toxic vasculitis. This condition results in compromised microvascular function, which leads to reduced delivery of oxygen and nutrients to cells, accumulation of metabolic waste products, metabolic acidosis, impaired detoxification and general dysfunction of organ systems Including the liver and brain. EECP can markedly improve vascular function, deliver oxygen and nutrients to cells and safely detoxify the body. In addition, EECP greatly improves lymphatic circulation. EECP Is one the safest and most effective detoxification methods available today.
